Thesis topic: Genetics of circulating biomarkers in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
Christina finished her Diploma studies at the University of Bonn, Germany, in 2010 with a thesis about “The Influence of carbohydrate consumption on prevention of the metabolic syndrome”. Thereafter she started a Master program in Public Health at Ludwigs Maximilans University in München, Germany, focusing on epidemiology, statistics and prevention. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Christina interned 3 and 6 months at German Nutrition Society and Department for Nutrition of WHO Regional Office for Europe, working on systematic reviews concerning diet and prevention of non-communicable diseases. In 2012, Christina joined the research group of Professor Orho-Melander for her master thesis, where she continued since and started her PhD-studies in February 2013.
Christina’s PhD project focuses on investigating novel biomarkers for cardiometabolic diseases using GWA-approaches, fine mapping, Mendelian Randomization and possibilities of lifestyle interactions. In addition, she is an analyst for the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study within the CHARGE Nutrition WG.
Christina was accepted to participate in the BLUEScY exchange program and spent recently some time in Boston.
